What is a cutting plotter?
A cutting plotter is a machine that cuts flexible materials following the path of a vector file. Instead of printing, it moves a blade over the material as the material advances, reproducing the outline of the design.
In visual communication, the cutting plotter is used to produce stickers, lettering, logos, banners, films, and details applied to vehicles, storefronts, and signage. The most common material is roll adhesive vinyl, but each machine has its specific compatibility.
Models with a camera or sensor can detect printed registration marks and perform contour cutting, where the machine cuts precisely along the perimeter of an already printed artwork. This is the recommended feature for those who print and cut custom stickers.
When choosing equipment, the most relevant factors are useful working width, the type of material to be cut, the need for contour cutting, and daily production volume. TEKNOVA's KUTT line includes models from A3 format up to 160 cm, with versions featuring automatic contour cutting via camera.
